Honey

It is the sweet food made by bees foraging nectar from flowers. They convert nectar into honey through regurgitation and evaporation. They store it as a primary food source in wax honeycombs inside the beehive.

Its main uses are in cooking, baking, desserts, as a spread on bread, and as an addition to various beverages, such as tea, and as a sweetener in some commercial beverages. Honey-barbecue and honey-mustard are other common flavors used in sauces. It can also be an ingredient in alcoholic beverages.

Honey for Human Health:

In as much as the evidence is not conclusive, there is some evidence that it may be effective in treating diseases and other medical conditions such as wounds and burns. It provides 64 calories in a typical serving of one tablespoon (15ml). It contains no significant essential nutrient content.

Check out the list below that shows some ailments and medical conditions that may be suppressed by its consumption:

Immune system: Start each day with one teaspoon of honey and pinch of cinnamon in a cup of green tea to protect the body from bacteria and viruses.

Cholesterol: 2 tablespoons of honey and 3 teaspoons of cinnamon powder, mixed in 475ml (16 oz) of green tea and drink, reduces the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10% within 2 hours.

Arthritis: Persons suffering from arthritis can benefit by taking one cup of hot water with one tablespoon or two teaspoons of honey and one small teaspoon of of cinnamon powder. Taken regularly, even chronic arthritis can be cured.

Diabetes: Soak one or two teaspoons of methi seeds/fenugreek seeds in water overnight and drink the first thin in the morning on an empty stomach.

Cancer: Recent research in Japan and Australia have revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones can be cured successfully. Persons suffering from these kinds of cancer should take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder, mixed in warm water, three times a day, for one month.

Acidity: Add 1 teaspoon of fennel (saunf) to one cup of boiled water. Cover the mixture and leave it overnight. In the morning, remove the cover, strain the water, add 1 teaspoon of honey and drink. Take it at least three times a day to eliminate acidity.

Pimples: Mix 3 tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Apply the paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it the next morning with warm water. When done daily for two weeks, it removes all pimples from the root.

Skin Infections: Apply honey and cinnamon powder in equal proportions on the affected area(s). This cures eczema, ring-worms and all types of skin infections.

Bladder Infections: Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and a teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it, It destroys the germs in the bladder.

Sore Throats: Mix 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder, 1⁄2 teaspoon of pepper, 1 teaspoon of ginger powder and 1 teaspoon of honey to a glass of water. Consume this mixture twice a day.

Cold/Cough: Take a tablespoon of honey, add to lukewarm water, mixed in 1⁄4 teaspoon of cinnamon powder, daily for three days. It is very helpful to cure even the most chronic coughs, colds and clears the sinuses.

Influenza: Drink a cup of warm water to which a teaspoon of honey and drops of lemon have been added. This soothes the symptoms and at the same time, loosens the phlegm, so that the body can get rid of it. This exercise should be repeated around 2 or 3 times a day.

Upset Stomach: Add a spoonful of honey with 1⁄4 teaspoon of cinnamon powder in a cup of ginger water. This mixture cures stomach aches and also clears stomach ulcers from the root.

caution-006Honey is generally safe for human consumption, but there are various, potential adverse-effects or interactions it may have in combination with excessive consumption, existing disease conditions, or drugs. It sometimes contains dormant endospores of the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which can be dangerous to babies, as it may result in botulism. Also, people with a weakened immune system should not eat it because of the risk of bacterial or fungal infection.
